Algebra test next Wednesday

This will be practice for the exam at the end of the year.

Take a look at past exam papers following the link on the right… Our test will be based on last year’s exam.

Also there is lots of really great information on studyit. Just follow the link http://www.studyit.org.nz/subjects/maths/math2/1 for heaps of hreat information on what you need to pass, revision questions and tips for the exam.

So… No excuses!! Remember if you are sick for the end of year exam this mark will be used instead so get studying and I’ll see you on Wednesday.

Next Friday we’re going to have our July birthday party. Bring some food to share as usual and I’ll bring my famous Mississippi Mud Cake. If you wanna have some themes or have other ideas for the party, discuss over here, please.

To memorise the quadratic formula you may find the following words useful.

x equals the minus of b
plus or minus the square root
of b squared minus four times a c
All! Over two a!

factorising quadratic expressions

Students will be able to factorise quadratics using strategies including:

taking out common factors
identifying linear factors by finding pairs of numbers which add to the coefficient of x and multiply to the constant term
identifying differences of two squares
identifying perfect squares
using two step factorisation (for when the coefficient of the squared term is not 1)

algebra fractions

Students will be able to arithmetically manipulate algebraic fractions and write them in their simplest form.

In class we did a selection of problems from exercises 2.01 – 2.03 and the last four numbers from 2.04 were assigned as homework.
